Together Through Advent - ecumenical presentations at Queen's House

Dec 9, 2017
* Together through Advent – an Ecumenical Journey with Darcie Lich and Rev. Claire Ewert Fisher at Queen’s House Retreat and Renewal Centre, 601 Taylor Street West, Saskatoon. Two Saturday mornings, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. – Come to one or both sessions! Cost: $20/session, $13/optional lunch. You are warmly invited to participate in this Advent series as we enter into some of the unique themes and invitations of this holy season, and how they intersect with our own lives. This unique series features two educators in our community from different Christian denominations:  Saturday, Dec. 2: Holy Linoleum - Rediscovering Sacred Ground In Advent. Facilitator: Darcie Lich (Roman Catholic tradition). Waiting for something that has already happened is a curious practice.  Advent calls us to prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ, yet we must somehow reconcile this with the fact that He is already here.  How can everyday distractions prevent us from seeing God in the here and now?  And how can the ordinary and the mundane point to God’s presence?  Come and discover what chocolate chip cookies and baskets of unfolded laundry have to do with the “already, but not yet” character of Advent.Saturday, Dec. 9: Every Creature Singing. Facilitator: Rev. Claire Ewert Fisher (Mennonite tradition) Advent is a time of preparation – preparation for God’s personal participation in the created order as realized through Jesus Christ. This   preparation - this eager anticipation - is not just the human experience but creation itself “will be set free from its bondage to decay and will obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God.” (Romans 8:20b) Questions we will bring to this morning’s prayer include, “What will happen when we, here in this corner of the planet, place our sacred texts and the cries of the earth side by side and listen to them together?” and “In what ways has creation taught us about God?” Come explore through biblical reflection and prayer God’s creative intent for all of God’s created order. As we need a minimum of 25 participants for each session please pre-register by calling 306-242-1916.

Benefit Concert for the People of Dominica

Dec 3, 2017
SAVE THE DATE!’ BENEFIT CONCERT – Sunday, December 3rd, 3 p.m.Imagine every house, school, church, community centre and city building gone!  Everything that was green turned to brown!  This is a reality for the people on the island of Dominica.  After the September Category 5 Hurricane Maria tore through Dominica, 70% of the island’s infrastructure was wiped out.  St. Anne’s parishioner , Jennifer Rommens , has made her home in Canada for 43 years but was born in Trinidad, not far from Dominica.  Her heart and mind could not rest after hearing of the catastrophe.  Although the International Red Cross among other aid agencies has been already providing water and other essentials to Dominica but so much more needs to be done.  With Jennifer belonging to the parish’s Music Ministry, the idea of a benefit concert with proceeds to help an aid agency was born! Come enjoy an afternoon of music provided by St. Anne’s Music Ministry and other surprise guest performers while knowing that the proceeds are all going to the aid of Dominica.  Watch for further notices about this event, but for now please mark your calendar and SAVE THE DATE!
